Vlogging Day 2: Indie Film Lab

Not sure how I feel about the whole “vlogging for 30 days thing”, but, we shall see how it goes. Until then, here are my thoughts on Indie Film Lab, some potentially awesome film developers in Alabama. I do think vlogging will force me to dive head first into film and then document what I […]

Hannah Sons - Is it creepy that I just love the way you talk. ha! ya pretty sure that sounded creepy coming out! I just think you are so awesome!

March 31, 2012 - 3:09 pm

Hannah Sons - ps. you have totally convinced me I need another film camera. It has been 10 years since I owned a film camera (nikon somethin ?). I don’t even know where to begin. annnd. What are you looking for in film. I also know what I am wanting but don’t really know how to explain it. Anywho keep up on the vblogging!!!

March 31, 2012 - 5:19 pm

Abby Grace - Girl, you are hilarious! I love hearing more about your film journey- I’m just starting mine too, and I can’t wait to try out Indie. I first heard about them a couple weeks back and it’s been nothing but positive feedback. I can’t wait to send my film off! PS- keep up the awesome vlogging! I wish I knew how to put a video in my log posts. Too bad I have the technical know-how of my mother.

March 31, 2012 - 8:09 pm

Josh Moates - Holy wow, thank you for doing this post. Super COOL. Thank you for sending in film! You Rock.

April 3, 2012 - 8:26 am

Yuliya M. - Ashley, I looooove this post! I can’t wait to get started with some film myself, can you recommend a camera?

April 3, 2012 - 9:51 am

Ashley Goodwin - Hey Yuliya! I am using a canon EOS 1VN right now (you can use your current canon lenses on it!) but I am really banking on a good medium format camera at some point, in particular a contax 645. The results with that camera are amazing. I hear Mamiya’s are good, too!

April 4, 2012 - 10:19 am

Christy Eriksson - Umm i want a tour of your house! I love the picture in your other video and I love this!! Lets get a house tour!! I love your style.

April 4, 2012 - 11:14 am

Ashley Goodwin - Thank yoU!!!!! I’m not done with the house yet, so a “house tour” is still up for debate (this former Interior Designer is also a perfectionist!). The art behind me is actually art I made for our wedding. Marshall made one, too, and I’m tempted to shoot some videos in front on it too! ;) Thanks for the sweet words! My style is always developing, so it’s fun to see it grow!

30 Day Vlog Challenge…CHALLENGED!

Today, I’m feeling goofy…in a good way. But I don’t know if I’m feeling frisky enough for this: Vlogging for 30 days.  Should I do it or should I not do it?  I don’t want to bogg my blog down with me rambling for 30 straight days…not to MENTION chances of me looking like this […]

Abby Grace - I can’t see this video because I’m still at my work PC (63 days!!) but you’re freaking hilarious. I just LOLed in my non-LOL-appropriate office building at your “feel free to judge me” line. I’ve just recently started following you but I already look forward to your posts!

March 30, 2012 - 10:19 am

jensey - Adorable. And don’t lose the accent- It’s YOU! :)

March 30, 2012 - 10:42 am

Jessica Danielle - you are hilarious!

March 30, 2012 - 1:14 pm

Lisa - Ha ha, I think this is great and being from the south myself think you shouldnt lose that southern accent! Love it!
Good luck with your 30 days of vlogging!

March 30, 2012 - 3:26 pm

Marissa Rodriguez - It is SO on!!! And p.s. I LOVE you! And you better not change anything about your accent! I’m obsessed with it!!!

March 30, 2012 - 3:28 pm

Tiffany Russell - Ashley I happen to love your accent and have since I saw you on Jasmine’s Creativelive workshop. Those people that can’t understand are just silly. I think I am going to do the challenge too but I am going to start on April 1st cause I want to do a full month and April has 30 days :). I know I’m not Melissa and I’m too far away to help (in Missouri; we have accents too) but I am taking you on. HAHAHA

March 30, 2012 - 3:43 pm

Jen Jar - Ashley! I love your accent! It makes you so much more lovable :)

March 30, 2012 - 3:44 pm

Lupe Ruiz - LOL!! You are too funny! I can’t wait to see your vlogs!!! And I LOVE your accent ;)

March 30, 2012 - 5:36 pm

Anthony Quesada - Love it Ash! Your southern charm makes you! Ok maybe not makes you, you are still pretty badass without needing an accent, but it brings you up another level! Miss you and can’t wait to watch what comes of this!

March 31, 2012 - 4:28 am

Lacey Rabalais - OMG Ashley…
Drinking my morning orange juice wasn’t smart as I started this video. I started laughing (in a good way) and almost sprayed my computer with spit and OJ.
You should never change that beautiful southern accent. And don’t hate on the rest of the southerners either. :o)

I’m excited to see where this Vlogging takes you. There is no way I could do it.

Good luck! Stay hilarious!!!

March 31, 2012 - 7:30 am

Kandise - Hahaha, I love you. If I can make just one video over the course of the month, it will be a success :)

March 31, 2012 - 9:22 am

Maria - Ashley, I love it! You’re so charismatic, I’m so bummed I still haven’t got a chance to meet you! I can’t wait till you next video! PS So glad you and Marissa became good friends! I don’t know either of you in person but I follow both of you online and I just new you’d be a prefect match!

With love from NYC to Hawaii! <3

March 31, 2012 - 9:25 am

Maria - Oops something went wrong, please delete my second weird poking comment. And yes, don’t get rid of your accent, I love it! It makes you who you are!

March 31, 2012 - 12:11 pm

Monika - haha! You are so funny. I am doing the challenge, and I totally challenged my best friend to do it with me! I don’t want to do it alone! :)

April 4, 2012 - 8:56 am

Dana Laymon - this was great! it’s so real- wish i knew about the challenge earlier! can i catch up? maybe I’ll play

April 5, 2012 - 4:35 pm

bahahahh…kidding…love this…xxxoo

The Girl Who Knew Nothing.

It’s no secret that I harbor a deep love for film. It’s also probably no secret that I’m still trying to learn it, flip flopping from trying to practice with different types of film to technicalities to simply swooning over my favorite photographer’s images. When I was lucky enough to go to WPPI for the […]

Kristin Cooley - OH M GEE, I love you for this line, it might be the simple best thing I’ve read all day:

“It was like they gave me a golden frickin’ ticket! (not Deena’s). But it did make me want to Jersey Turnpike them just for the kind gesture.”

Props to you for putting yourself out there and ain’t no shame in your game on the crying front. (big crier over here too)

I can’t wait to see your next roll of film!!

March 29, 2012 - 10:49 am

Kathryn Denelle Stevens - Hi Ashley! Kirk Mastin of Mastin Studio in Seattle ( http://mastinstudio.com/ ) shares a TON of info on how he shoots film on his Formspring: http://www.formspring.me/kirkmastin he’s so great and super willing to discuss/share much of what he has learned.

March 29, 2012 - 10:52 am

Emilia Jane - Love your film work girl! I can’t wait to see more of it :-)

March 29, 2012 - 11:08 am

angela - oh you have no idea how much this post came at the right time. i wanted to give up and walk away and to stop trying and practicing. thank you :) and keep rocking the film! can’t wait to see your progression.

March 29, 2012 - 11:45 am

Carrie Joy - Super cute photo of you, girl! And I love that you had the courage to talk to Jose & ask him what he thought! I’m reading through Jonathan Canlas’ book Film is not Dead right now & I like it so far, but I still haven’t been practicing like I should!

March 29, 2012 - 11:57 am

LeolaK - You are too cute!!! Love that photo! Props to you for having the nerve to ask what you wanted to know…instead of not and wondering “what if”. What I remember of learning in film – that I loved and well costs me tons – bracketing. Bracket bracket bracket! LOL I’ll see what I can find in my school info (that’s what they started us out on) and send it to you. I think you are doing great so far of what you’ve shown – I love it!!! =)

March 29, 2012 - 12:03 pm

ashley barnett - Cute pic! And ahem…when Jeremy and I come to Hawaii, you can Jersey Turnpike him AND shoot some “engagement” pics for us, in film. :)

March 29, 2012 - 12:15 pm

Alyssa Turner - I think I fall a little bit more in love with you with every post I read!

March 30, 2012 - 8:15 am

Erin Oveis Brant - You are gorgeous. End of story!

March 30, 2012 - 11:15 am

Trude - Isn’t Jose just the nicest? I got to meet him at a book signing last year in LA. I’ve been shooting film more too, and I really think it’s not so different from digital in terms of practice, practice, practice and just trying different things until you find the combo of film and camera that you love (like with processing). Some of my fave film shooters, who share more details because they’re not writing books, are The Image is Found (they share a lot on their personal blog), Christine Pobke and Kim Miller.

March 30, 2012 - 6:34 pm

Harmony Loves - Ashley! I’ll learn with you!!!! I don’t know how we’ll learn together but I’m down! Maybe we should give each other weekly assignment ;) I’m an ex teacher ;)

April 29, 2012 - 10:27 pm

Safauna - Hit the local library and grab an old photography book- all written before film and will be able to tell you a whole lot more then “shoot and chimp”. It’ll also tell you to do exactly what Jose did. Keep up the film work, it’s such an exciting adventure! Love seeing others working with film as well (and who are just learning). Practice practice practice!

April 29, 2012 - 10:29 pm

Safauna - Hit the local library and check out the photography books- the older ones will be a ton of help. And do what Jose suggested (the photography books will also tell you to do that same thing). And practice practice practice. Always exciting to find other people on the journey to the film world! Can’t wait to see more of the work you turn out!

“Food” for thought.

I’m an eater. Wait.  That sounds terrible. How about I thoroughly enjoy a great meal. Or non-meal.  Brunch.  Snack.  Late-night snack.  Mid-night snack.  Mid-afternoon cocktails.  YOU GET THE PICTURE.  I appreciate good food, especially when great company is involved. Clearly, I’m an emotional eater.  I indulge when I’m sad.  I overindulge when I’m happy.  I […]

Jen Jar - Holy moly you know how I feel about food girl. Barlow, JD, and I would be an unstoppable food vacuum.

March 28, 2012 - 12:53 pm

JD - ASHLEY… you should have been in that video! You were definitely part of the foodies club on the bus. In fact you might have been the creator! :) If you’re sipping on green juice drinks, maybe I should have let you eat the intestines… they might have tasted better than your drinks!
